Phnom Penh Closes Restaurant for Serving Alcohol

Phnom Penh: The "Russey Paem" restaurant in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district has been closed by authorities after it was found to be selling alcohol to customers in violation of current Covid-19 restrictions. It was also not following other health measures. A total of 102 customers and staff underwent rapid tests for Covid-19. It is not known how many tested positive. The operation was led by Por Senchey’s Deputy Governor, Pang Lida, with the help of the Por Senchey District Unity Command.

Authorities say while the ban on alcohol sales has been lifted in most parts of the country, it remains in effect in Phnom Penh, along with the suspension of high-risk businesses such as KTVs, beer gardens, bars, massage parlours, cinemas and schools. The current measures are due to expire on Thursday. An announcement regarding whether they’ll be extended is expected in the next couple of days.
